c b Community Facilities X63 RCC~'e1ClOt1 The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department strives to provide a comprehensive, safe, and stirrtulating program of leisure-time .activities for residents of New Brighton in as economic a manner possible. These programs include activities for all ages with a majority operating on a self- supporting basis. Certain programs such as summer play- grounds are subsidized by taxes. The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department has' also facilitated various athletic associations and organizations which serve the residents. The Department's function has primarily been in providing facilities and publicizing their programs. These organizations are:. Irondale Basketball; Association (IBA); Lake Region Hockey Association (LRHA); Mounds View Athletic Association (MVAA-Baseball); Mounds View Swim Club; New Brighton Junior Bowling; and North Suburban Junior Wrestling.; Residents of New Brighton can actively participate in a wide range of activities from athletic to cultural in nature. Programs are offered through the New Brighton.Park and . Recreation Department, Athletic Associations, Independent School District 621 Community Education Department, and Independent School District 2$2 Community Services Department. ~ Recreation. program offerings of the New Brighton Park and Recreation Department are listed in the chart on the following page. The Department provides interested residents with available facilities for their use; i.e. pool rentals, open gyms, gym reservations, field reservations. The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department works cooperatively with both the Independent School District 621 Community Education Department and the Independent School District 282 Community Services Department in several areas of programming. These areas include a Winter Fair/Equipment Exchange Evening; adult trips, development of youth after school programs.; planning programs to serve special populations; a cross country, ski program; and joint Senior activities. The Community Education and Community. Services Departments offer activities primarily for adult residents in the areas of continuing education, early childhood and family education, parent-child craft and game activities, business education, communication and language, investment planning, creative activities (crafts), home improvements, painting and drawing, sewing, needlepoint, kitchen arts, cultural cooking, dance and exercise, health education, dog grooming, guitar, scuba diving, photography, music education, cross country skiing, wilderness survival, fishing classes, and various youth programs; i.e. downhill ski program, swimming, clowning and ventriloquism.
