c b Community Facilities X63 <br />RCC~'e1ClOt1 The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department strives <br />to provide a comprehensive, safe, and stirrtulating program of <br />leisure-time .activities for residents of New Brighton in as <br />economic a manner possible. These programs include <br />activities for all ages with a majority operating on a self- <br />supporting basis. Certain programs such as summer play- <br />grounds are subsidized by taxes. <br />The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department has' <br />also facilitated various athletic associations and organizations <br />which serve the residents. The Department's function has <br />primarily been in providing facilities and publicizing their <br />programs. These organizations are:. Irondale Basketball; <br />Association (IBA); Lake Region Hockey Association (LRHA); <br />Mounds View Athletic Association (MVAA-Baseball); Mounds <br />View Swim Club; New Brighton Junior Bowling; and North <br />Suburban Junior Wrestling.; <br />Residents of New Brighton can actively participate in a <br />wide range of activities from athletic to cultural in nature. <br />Programs are offered through the New Brighton.Park and . <br />Recreation Department, Athletic Associations, Independent <br />School District 621 Community Education Department, <br />and Independent School District 2$2 Community Services <br />Department. <br />~ Recreation. program offerings of the New Brighton Park <br />and Recreation Department are listed in the chart on the <br />following page. The Department provides interested <br />residents with available facilities for their use; i.e. pool <br />rentals, open gyms, gym reservations, field reservations. <br />The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department works <br />cooperatively with both the Independent School District 621 <br />Community Education Department and the Independent <br />School District 282 Community Services Department in <br />several areas of programming. These areas include a Winter <br />Fair/Equipment Exchange Evening; adult trips, development <br />of youth after school programs.; planning programs to serve <br />special populations; a cross country, ski program; and joint <br />Senior activities. <br />The Community Education and Community. Services <br />Departments offer activities primarily for adult residents in <br />the areas of continuing education, early childhood and family <br />education, parent-child craft and game activities, business <br />education, communication and language, investment planning, <br />creative activities (crafts), home improvements, painting and <br />drawing, sewing, needlepoint, kitchen arts, cultural cooking, <br />dance and exercise, health education, dog grooming, guitar, <br />scuba diving, photography, music education, cross country <br />skiing, wilderness survival, fishing classes, and various youth <br />programs; i.e. downhill ski program, swimming, clowning <br />and ventriloquism. <br />
