Txrr~N~ <br />The depot wqs built in 1$87 and it is expected that the .complete restarr~tion'af <br />the building will be completed in 1987 far the centennial celebration of the <br />depot. The NBAHS is warki.ng with Hills, Gilbertson Architects, Tnc., Leslie <br />E. Foretell, AZA. He has prepared. the plans and cost estimates which will be <br />used to restore the building. The NBAH5 intenda to pursue grants through <br />the Minnesota Hastarical Society and local corporations and foundations far <br />grant money. Fundraising far various stages of the project wall be under- <br />taken by the NBAHS. <br />There rare a number of reasons that motivate groups such his ours t~ restore <br />old buildings. Same do it far nostalgia, some have emotional ties with <br />employment, same have ancestors.who workad for the railroad itself, and <br />some do it just for entertainment, The NBAH9 realazea that public support <br />is the key ingredient for this project. Since the purpose of a museum as <br />to educate the public, it is necessary that a museum be accessible to its <br />public. The Long Lake site is ind®ed that. It i.s near the propa~;ed picnic <br />area.has adequate parking nearby, it is near fire and police protection, <br />and central?y located. The depot museum, ao located et the park site, can <br />provide the community with a cultural center, an educational tool find a <br />heritage repository. <br />
