February 6, 19$5 Park Board Minutes Page 2
Carlson said they feel control is an extremely. important
par t; of access.. The large group picnic area was also dis-
cussed, no support, no consensus. No action was taken. on
the picnic area but a vote .was taken to move the boat ramp
to the south end.
Benke'said moving it to the south end would result in a re-
duction of control.
Carlson said that would mean having control on both ends.
Berke said that would cost us additional dollars.
Anderson said it is possible. to try something one year and
if it doesn't work, try something new the next year.
C . Depar'tznent Report
Anderson introduced Pat Nelson the new program supervisor for
the Park and Recreation. Department. Thexe was a supervisor staff
training session. Staff is also working on team building. The
department is getting the spring brochure ready. The City is
working on a comparable worth study. The plan should be in
effect 1986. Attended a NRPA meeting in .Rockford, IL which
was very productive.
D. Letter from Jerome Olson
Anderson said the letter from Olson was regarding. the lack of
public launching at Long Lake. The MPCA was concerned but
Anderson and 5imons(of Ramsey County) met with them to let
them ;know they are moving in the right direction. plson's point_is __
we11'taken. It will go to the County Board and the City Council.
V. New Business
A. Comprehensive Plan Review
Anderson and Chairperson Gunderman met and they felt it would be
good to have the Park Board. meet with .neighborhood groups and
continue to have the Park Board involved in parks decisions and
also 'become more involved in recreation programming.. Would
like the Park Board to center their discussion around how do
we do this. would like to see the Park Board consider breaking.
into ',groups of about 3 when doing the neighborhs~od meetings.
.Publicity of meetings could be flyers, brochure, newspaper and
would like to see the Park Board go out and talk to the residents.
Maybe have a questionnaire that would be handed. out to selected
people. A concerted effort will have to be made to get people to
these meetings. Personal contact would be the best way to do it
and the best way to find out how people really feel..
Benke said the council .members would help in distribution of
flyea~s .
Trish Blomquist asked when this would take place.
