cna~ s Community Facilities ~~
Long Lake Park
~~U_
Lang Lake is a 3x8 acre site located
between Long Lake and Old Highway. 8. The
park is part of the Ramsey County regional.
park system.

County and Regional Parks
Development of the park is in progress,
with the swimming beach o
open in the spring of 1986. When fully
developed, the park will .also .include
small and large group picnic facilities,
boat launch, hiking/biking and cross
country ski trails, nature study areas
and a day camp. Compl~tian of the park
is scheduled for 1989 depending on avail-
ability of state funding.
A major area. of contention regarding development in this
park has been use of the lake and the lake shore. The issue
is one of attempting to balance the rights of homeowners on
the lake with those of others desiring to use the lake; for recre-
ational purposes. This issue will be equally difficult to resolve
regardless whether the park is developed as a regional or local
facility.
Some minimal development will occur in 1982 with more
`extensive development likely to begin in 1983.
The City has, within an eight mile radius, aver S,QUO acres
of countyand regional facilities. These parks are located in
Anoka, Hennepin and Ramsey Cdunties. These parks empha-
sixe swimming, picnicking, trails, etc. rather than the athletic
,~cilities and playgrounds typically found in municipal
systems. Access to these parks is typically by autornabile
although the Rice Creek Regional trail will link some of them
for biking, hiking and cross country skiers.
