• New Brightan Citizen Survey
Page #3
FINDINGS
The series of tables in Appendix D describes findings of interest.
The following are highlights:
-Over half of the respondents have lived in New Brighton for
six or more years, and only 14~/ have lived in New Brighton
far a year or less. (see Table I. G.)
-All services except the Diseased Tree Program received
ratings of "Excellent" or "Good" by at least 50% of the
respondents; 50% had no opinion or gave no responses
regarding the Diseased Tree Program (See Table II.), most
of wham are renters (See Table VIII.)
-The Fire Department was rated as "Excellent" or "Good" by
81% of respondents, and the Police Department was rated
as such by 89% of respondents. (see Table II.)
-Road repair and the water service were rated as having
"Poor" quality by 13% and 15% of respondents, respectively,
being the lowest rated of services. (See Table II.)
-Parks were rated as "Excellent" or "Good" by 79% of
respondents., with 15% not responding. (see Table II.)
Most respondents would prefer to see existing parks
maintained as opposed to having new parks developed or
existing parks improved, supportive of the high level of
satisfaction revealed by another earlier survey question.
(see Table IIT. B.) Parents of young children are most
likely to prefer improvement or development of new parks
compared to simple maintenance. (See Table ITT, D.)
-Seventy-five percent of respondents always or usually
feel safe after ten in the evening in their neighborhoods
(See Table IV. A.), with older residents and women
constituting the majority of those who rarely or never
feel safe (,See Tables IV. B., C.).
-Forty-one percent of respondents or their family members
have taken part in City recreation programs, with only
76% having ideas regarding new programs which they would
like to see added. (See Tables VI. A., B.) Lack of
participation is highest among the youngest and oldest
respondents (See Table VI. C.), and renters (See Table
XI. D.). Not surprisingly, approximately 70% of those
with young children said they or their families have
participated, compared with 28% of those with no young
children. (see Table XI. E.)
-Approximately one-fourth of respondents have used the
Brightwood Hi11s Golf Course, and 67% of the users rated
it as "Good" or "Excellent". (See Tables VII. A. and
VIT. C.)
