September 3,.1986 Park Board Minutes
Page 3
Anderson said that a new plan for Vets will be drawn up soon.
• Van Hatten asked if the new plan will show the St. John's
parking .lot.
Anderson said yes. It is basicly-the one Williams presented
at the Council meeting.
C. Historic Area Placques
Anderson said that Mayor Benke wanted to identify historic
sites in New Brighton .and then identify them with some kind
of placque.
Johnson said it seemed that. it would be a project for the
Historical Society.
Carlson agreed.
Johnson said the city could help financially if needed. City
staff and Park Board do not seem like they would be good at.
identifying the sites.
Anderson thought the Historical Society and Centennial Commission
could work on it together.
Rose said we support the idea but feel the Historical Society
would be better suited for the project.
• MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY OLSON, TO COOPERATE WITH
THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE CENTENNIAL COMMISSION ON THE
HISTORIC SITES. MOTION CARRIED.
Anderson said he has received complaints -from a woman about
the Silver Oak tennis court area. Her complaint was that
there is no parking and the area around the courts is trashy.
She also said the city should have put a time limit on when
Cadwallader had to have the tennis courts in.'
Anderson said the City Attorney, LaFevere, is looking at this
very closely. We may have a lever. The PRD that the developer
was given has expired. We could make him go back to square one.
If there is no lever, the city could loan him the money and
ask for payment over 5 years. He is slow on moving on t~7is
because all his money for the project would be put into the
tennis courts. There is no incentive for him to complete
the project.
Van Hatten asked if he could be assessed.
Anderson said yes that is another possibility.
Kalina said the complaints about the tennis courts are not'
• about its location but rather the eye sore around the park.
If the developer would just clean up the area, people would
be haPPy•
MOTION BY OLSON, SECONDED BY CARLSON, TO ADJOURN AT 8:20pm
MOTION CARRIED.
