March 5, 1986 Park Board Mintues Page 2 V. New Business A. Election of Officers MOTION BY OLSON, SECONDED BY VAN HATTEN, TO ELLECT KEN JOHNSON AS PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN. MOTION CARRIED. MOTION BY SEWARD, SECONDED BY EICHERS, TO ELECT DAVE .VAN HATTEN AS VICE CHAIRMAN. MOTION CARRIED. B. .Veterans Park Renovation/Approval of Architectural Proposal Anderson said the City Council wanted the Park Board to see the proposal first. It will go to the Council next Tuesday with the Park Board's recommendation. Anderson said he recommended the firm fora few reasons. -The park will be used for water retention -Must be integrated with City Hall -Want it to be aesthetically coordinated with the downtown development (this .firm has already done some work with the downtown area) -Damon Farber and Associates is a high qulaity, reputable firm -Fee they are charging is average. Damon Farber and Associates is the proposed firm for this work but the City has not sought anyone else because of Damon Farber's previous work in the City (Med Center). The firma would work closely with the Park Board and with the residents. The Park Board expressed some concern about being locked into some of the items in the proposal. Council Rep. Williams stated the Council did not refer the proposal to the Park Board because there was something wrong with it but rather to get the Park Board's input. He added that Task 4 of the Veteran's proposal could be left out if the Park Board felt uncomfortable with it. The Park Board felt satisfied with Williams' statement. MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY SEWARD, TO APPROVE SELECTLON OF DAMON FARBER AND ASSOCIATES FOR LANDSCAPING OF BOTH CITY HALL AND VETERANS PARK. MOTION CARRIED. C. Comprehensive Park Plan Anderson distributed a summary of comments resulting from the neighborhood meetings last fall. He asked the Park Board for advice on how to handle requests which were too costly or im- practical or not in the current comp. plan.
