March 5, 1986 Park Board Minutes
D. Aquatics Director
Page 5
Anderson said New Brighton and Mounds View are proposing to
hire an aquatics director to direct the aquatics programs of
both cities. Funds. for the position will come from four sources:
self supporting program, existing aquatics budget, Long Lake
beach budget and the senior aide position.
The aquatics director would keep the aquatics program between
the two cities well coordinated.
Council Representative Williams was concerned that perhaps
St. Anthony would feel they should also be a part of the joint
agreement because part of their school district covers New
Brighton.
Anderson said they have their own aquatics program and it is
a good one.
A question of why the aquatics director would report to Mounds
View came up.
Anderson stated because in the joint powers agreement we
currently have with-:.the forester, he reports to New Brighton
and to balance out the paperwork for payroll, etc. it seemed
appropriate this person would report to Mounds View.
Ken Johnson was surprised at the $21,000 salary for this position.
He felt it was high.
Anderson said the $21,000 would be the very top. It would
be advertised as a range. He further stated that his investi-
gation had determined that this salary was comparable to what
was being-paid in other cities.
Johnson suggested advertising at $17,000 or $18,00.0 to see
what kind of response is received. If it is not good, then
the salary could be increased.
MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY OLSON, TO APPROVE THE
AQUATICS JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT. MOTION CARRIED.
VI. Old Business
None
VII. Announcements
A. Park Board Party - March 7, 1986
Final discussion took place.
VIII. Adjournment
MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY SEWARD TO ADJOURN THE MEETING
AT 10:05 PM. MOTION CARRIED.
