April 28, 1987

Mr. Maurie Anderson, Director
New Brighton Parks & Recreation Dept.
.1975 Silver Lake Rd.
New. Brighton, MN 55112
Subject: 12th Ave. N.W. cul-de-sac at Hanson Park
City of New Brighton
Dear Mr. Anderson:
On April 27, 1987 Y spoke with Mr. Proper concerning various
matters with the subject site work. He suggested prior to a
signed neighborhood petition we write this letter to you. Z
live at 150 - 12th Avenue, but have been selected to voice
opinions of many area residents.
Rllow me to premise this letter by saying that we understand
park land is for public use as designated by city ordinance
and.-that not all problems can be corrected by signage or law
enforcement. However, we feel that the neighborhood and city
well-being can be served by the action recommended by this
letter.
New home owners purchased homes on 12th Avenue and also on
Wedgewood Court assuming construction according to plans dated,
May 13, 1986 which would allow 4-6 parking spaces at the end
of 12th Avenue. The intention was to allow a small number of
parking locations to minimize illegal use of alchohol and
chemicals, var~clalism and littering, and direct overflow auto
parking to larger areas designated at the northwest side of
Hanson Park.
We have seen an improvement in these activities since 12th
Avenue and Wedgewood Court have been constructed but there is
a need to restrict traffic to the .parking stalls because as
autos fill up the 4-6 stalls the others park on the cul-de-sac
and roadway causing restriction of turn-around capabilities
forcing other traffic to use private drives along 12th Avenue
in order to turn around and exit.
We do not want overflow parking. We ,feel others who use the
park can use other parking facilities. The most obvious solu-
tion would be to paint the curbs yellow and/or post no parking
signs. This should be done in conjunction with current con-
struction and enforced by the Police Department.
Please respond by letter or phone by May 5, 1987. I can be
reached at either 636-3229, my home, or 633-6977, at work.
Thank you for your cooperation.
S/incerely-y,~
`J
Cindy Murlowski
Distribution: Les Proper, Chief Engineer
Bob Benke, Mayor
