January 7, 1987 Park Board Minutes <br />Page 2 <br />Lockers are in and the walkways in the prairie are <br />almost completed. The play area is installed and <br />will be completed this spring. Trees will be planted <br />in the beach are and more bike racks have been <br />ordered. A volleyball court will be installed. A <br />handicapped wheel chair has been purchased that can <br />go on the sand. If it works well more will be <br />purchased. Next year trails will go in and the large <br />picnic area will be started. There is anew member, <br />Mr. Haidet. <br />Rose asked what kind of trails were going in. <br />Anderson said they are bituminous, 6 ft. wide and <br />will be used as bike trail too. A trail will be <br />set next to the path for cross country skiing. <br />Eichers asked about shelters for the picnic areas. <br />Anderson said yes the picnic areas will all have <br />shelters but only the large group area will have <br />restroom facilities.- <br />V. New Business <br />A. Judy Goepel, Centennial Commission <br />Judy reviewed with the Park Board what the Centennial <br />Commission has done so far. They have been meeting <br />twice a month since September. A Centennial logo <br />has been developed. <br />Some of the things that are being considered include: <br />-Naegele donation of billboard use <br />Centennial design will be rotated on different <br />billboards in the City <br />-Lots of publicity <br />-Historical musical drama with help from NB <br />Historical Society <br />-Travelling exhibit. <br />-Coordinating some activities with Stockyard <br />Days - MN High School Rodeo planned <br />-Ecumenical Services planned by all ministers <br />in New Brighton <br />-Banners for City streets <br />-Get Senior Citizens involved <br />-Concerts in the park - Park & Rec helping <br />with concerts <br />-City Hall dedication <br />-Dedication of Long Lake Beach <br />
