New Brighton Pazk Board Minutes
Teen Lounge:
Trevorrow asked if 9th graders would be included in the teen lounge.
They aze the ones left out of everything. Sixth grade is still not a teen.
Olson said this was discussed and the thought was that 9th graders
would not want to be there. The programming would be geared to 6-8th
graders; the middle school ages. In the original discussion the thought
was that 9th graders are in high school and would not want to be
involved with activities with the younger kids. Knuth said that last
year his son was in 9th grade and would have used the lounge. Kinzie
said he may not if the 6th graders were there. Trevorrow asked what
was planned. Anderson said they would get a youth advisory
committee to help decide how the azea would be decorated. It depends
on who we talk to. If there aze no 9th graders on the committee, this
won't be for them. Anderson commented that Shoreview has adults
and kids in their open .gym. Knuth asked to expand the azea to include
Edgewood. Ocel asked if there is a place where kids could just hang
out other than the lounge. Anderson said there is a place next to the
exercise area and next. to the lounge. The gym has a big stage on it.
On weekends they may be able to use the play azea. OCEL
SUGGESTED CHANGING THE NAME TO "YOUTH LOUNGE. "
Williams said if they start as a 6th grader, they may continue through
9th grade.
Scheduling Priority:
Knuth expressed concern for athletic associations using up all the time
in the gyms. Olson said they would be #2 priority and can only use
one gym. Knuth asked about our relationship with the City of Mounds
View. Anderson said we share a forester with Mounds View but we do
very little activity programming with. them. Knuth commented that the
Edgewood area needs this.
Williams inquired about the statement regazding getting bumped.
Anderson said there may be occasions when we would have to bump
someone. Williams commented that he hopes it wouldn't be too often.
Cate og ries:
Memberships:
Knuth said he would prefer to pay $10 more on a membership rather
than paying a quarter each time to use a locker. There was discussion
about ages for kids using exercise equipment. Anderson said in
Colorado they use age 16 as their cut off, but some pieces of equipment
they were allowed at age 14 if they had training. Knuth felt everyone
should be trained. Anderson said staff costs will be high to do
training. CHANGE AGE UNDER EXERCISE AREA FROM 16 TO
14 WITH A NOTE THAT ORIENTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE
TO ALL EXERCISE AREA PATRONS, BUT WILL BE REQUIRED
FOR YOUTH 14 & 15 YEARS OF AGE. Inquiry was made if
membership fees were due all. at once or if there would be a payment
plan. Anderson said a payment plan will be available.
