October 6, 1993 Park Board Minutes
10
The seniors would have most of the facilities in the senior center but
we couldn't do the staffing. If the seniors are added they could be in
the same time we are. Bids will come in October 27th. If they are at
or under 54.5 million, then we can do it. Once the bids come in for
the earthwork, and parking then the dollar amount for heating,
flooring, masonry, etc. can be figured. The estimate should be within
2%.
Trevorrow asked if the school board has approved it.
Anderson said yes, they had a unanimous vote.
Anderson said if the bids do not come in under budget, we will trim
something from the plan.
Carlson asked how the 54.5 million came to be.
Anderson said that the construction management firm came up with
that figure back in July. There have been some refinements to reduce
the cost.
Carlson asked when the estimated opening date would be.
Anderson said October 1994.
Olson asked if the senior center was included in the 54.5 million.
Anderson said no.
Kalina asked if the senior center couldn't be included now.
Anderson said that politically we are still committed to the multi-city
senior center. Most cities have said December would be their deadline
for something to happen. To operate the senior center in the family
center would cost us about half of what our portion would be with the
multi-city senior center. It would be more economical over time to
share a senior center with other cities.
Trevorrow asked if it would be possible to put the 4 city senior center
in the family center.
Anderson said no. The location is not right.
There was talk of absenteeism of some members. Staff was asked to
prepare an attendance summary in December.
