11RINUTFS/SIJNIlVIARY OF THE NEW BRIGHTON
FORESTRY BOARD MEETING -MARCH 23, 1993
The first meeting of the New Brighton Forestry Boazd took place from 7:15pm to 9:30pm on
March 23, 1993.
The first order of business was administrative in nature with the naming of the group.
"Forestry Boazd" was approved over other possibilities like "Tree Board" or "Tree
Committee." It was felt that the scope of the word Forestry will better represent the soon-to-
be established mission statement and activities of the Boazd.
Meetings will take place at least three times a year or as needed.
Various potential projects and pursuits were discussed. It was agreed that many projects,
such as the relandscaping of the Interstate 694 corridor should be given a serious look.
Theme planting. on certain streets was also mentioned.
An information packet of fact sheets, maps and reports was given to each member and
discussed. Of special interest were tree diseases such as ash yellows, Dutch elm disease and
oak wilt. Serious insect pests like gypsy moth and the Japanese beetle were also discussed.
The City Forester then gave a summary of Forestry Department activities and projects
followed by slides of the landscape development of certain New Brighton pazks.
The meeting ended with the announcement of the upcoming Arbor Day planting project at
Hansen Pazk, April 17, 1993 at 9:OOam.
The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for the summer.
hb~-+e,
Lel~s di~ruis his - I
~fiink 1t's W~'mf°i~~'
~~E
