!~ =s
oK>
February 14, 2991
Dear Community Organization:
The Champlin Parke and Recreation Commission is very excited to offer your
organization an opportunity to become involved in the recently approved Adopt-A-
Park Program.
The Program is modeled after the MNDOT Adopt-A-Highway Program and would be
designed to involve the Champlin community in a personal commitment to provide
a safer and cleaner Park System.
Community groups, churches, businesses or individual .volunteer groups interested
in the Adopt-A-Park Program, will agree to pick up litter in a designated City
park for a (1) one year period. Pick-up projects will be required at least (3)
three times per year. Participants are required to provide adequate adult
supervision on site at all times during the clean-up.
Y
The Parks and Recreation Department will provide assistance in selecting a City
park which best meets the interest of each groug as well as providing trash bags
and pick-up of accumulated bags and removal of any large, heavy or Potentially
dangerous items at the park site. Participants are asked to prearrange pick-up
dates to allow scheduling of accumulated debris and coordinate publicity to
solicit local media coverage. The Parks and Recreation Department will also
provide a 2' x 3' sign (example attached) that will be erected at the park
entrance as well as adding each group to a plaque that would be displayed in the
Parks and Recreation Building on the Municipal Center Campus. Trees will also
be provided to participants interested in overseeing planting projects within the
adopted parks. Participants will be invited to attend a City Council meeting for
a special presentation of a resolution from the Mayor andCity .Council
recognizing their efforts.
Litter is unsightly and detracts from the natural beauty of our City parka.
Litter is also very expensive. The adoption of this Program may provide some
relief to the ever-increasing Park Maintenance Budget. The Parks and Recreation
Commission feels this is an excellent opportunity to involve your organization
in a community project that obviously is beneficial to everyone involved and
provides well .deserved public recognition for your organization.
-If your organization is interested in participating in the Adopt-A-Park Program
in 1991, please contact me at the Champlin Parks and Recreation Department at
421-2820 by Friday, March 29, 1991. Park projects will be allocated on a first-
come first-served basis.
Thank you for your consideration on this issue and I look forward to working with
you on the Adopt-A-Park Program.
Sincerely,
Bret Heitkamp
Parks and Recreation Director
sx/tm
Enc.
