Council Meeting Minutes
September 10, 1990
Council Business, continued
Council Business
The proposed building would be 80 feet wide by 120 feet long, and Construction of Cold
have an eave height of 16 feet above grade. The building would be ~~~orage Facility
located in the northeast corner of the City garage site. Soil Report 90-195
borings were conducted and conditions are suitable. A portion could
be sectioned off for storage and repair of the float.
The proposed building would not be insulated or heated except for
the Stockyard .Days area in the southwest corner of the building.
This area would be about 24 feet .wide by 45 feet long.
The estimates for three different building types include: a metal
building with a wood frame - $97,200; a metal building with steel
frame - $122,000; or masonry and steel building - $199,800.
Staff recommends the metal building with steel frame because it is
stronger and superior to wood and will provide more vertical
clearance for loading and unloading of vehicles.
In addition to building costs the City will incur architectural fees
and the cost to run a watermain for the sprinkling system. Staff
recommends retaining Norm Wells for the architectural services and
inclusion of a contingency for landscaping and exterior dressing.
The total estimated budget for the facility is $145,000.
Proposed funding will be 1/3 from the general fund and 2/3 from the
utility funds and spread over a five year period. Staff recommends
the same fund split, but spread the costs over a longer period so
the annual cost would remain unchanged. Staff will pursue possible
contributions from charitable organizations for the float area.
Benke noted that other community organizations will be able to use
the float area for storage.
Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Will Tams, to RETAIN NORM WELLS
ARCHITECT TO PROVIDE ARCHITECTURAL SERVICE FOR A COLD VEHICLE
STORAGE FACILITY WITH A METAL BUILDING AND STEEL FRAME, AND PROCEED
TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR SITE PLAN REVIEW.
5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried
Childs presented the community center summary and noted the Task
Force's goals and objectives of: "To provide to the residents of
New Brighton a comprehensive, multi-purpose center which responses
to their recreational, social, and cultural needs."
The Design Team responded to these goals with a design which
satisfies the objectives and is designed to be economical to
construct, easy to maintain, and energy efficient.
Page 4
Content, Financial, and
Referendum Report on
Proposed Community Ctr.
Report 90-196A
Report 90-196B
Report 90-196C
Resolution 90-076
Resolution 90-077
