I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
February 11, 1986

Schmidt reviewed meetings he has been attending; stated the Cable
Commission had received correspondence notifying the Commission
that Group W is selling all of their cable systems; there are
five companies that are bidding and have, in fact, reached an
agreement with Group W to buy their cable systems; last week
Daniels cable company had reached an agreement with another
company, Hauser, that operates a system here in the metro area,
the Northwest System, so it's a spinoff. At this point the
Commission feels it has the responSibility of digging into all
the documentation to find out exactly what is the purchase price,
who the parties are, and explore with Miller & Schroeder the
possibility of municipal ownership, recognizing there are
significant limitations and impracticalities to ten cities owning
and operating this kind of system.

Schmidt distributed a letter that addresses the fact that the
attornies for the Cable Commission will not be representing the
North Suburban Cable Commission as it relates to the first
transaction where Westinghouse is selling those systems to the
five companies, and then the spinoff to Hauser. The Commission
is in the process of conducting a search for counsel to repre-
sent the Commission so they are assured there will not be a con-
flict-of-;nterest situation.

Once a city has been notified, it has thirty days to request a
public hearing; the letter suggests the Commission be delegated
to hold that public hearing and it would only schedule the
hearing once it received notice.

Motion by Benke, seconded by Brandt, that CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
AUTHORIZE THE NORTH SUBURBAN CABLE COMMISSION TO HOLD THE RE-
QUIRED PUBLIC HEARING ON OUR BEHALF.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Sinda stated that Thursday evening the Council is scheduled to
meet with Miller & Schroeder at the Hilton.

Brandt attended a meeting this morning, called my a ministerial
group, to address the problem of suicide problems in this
community, particularly with regard to younger people. The City
was represented (Kelley and Sinda) to let them know that we are
concerned and will do what we can to help.

Page Nineteen

Cable Update

Miller & Schroder
Meeting

Suicide Meeting
