I I I Council Meeting Minutes January 14, 1986 State of the City, continued Page Two "It is obvious that we cannot rest on our past accomplishments for very long. Change is constant. Old solutions to continuing problems can be fine-tuned. New problems require different solutions. Some things can be discontinued as we start others. We must consider which, if any, of the services being stopped elsewhere should be continued by us. We must reconsider our future role and responsibilities while maintaining our current strengths within our available resource limits. "How we convert these challenges into opportunities will determine whether or not a year from now we will be able to say we've improved our City and made a positive difference for our people. I am confident we have the ability and the commitment to succeed as a council and as a community. I am excited about the future and I am looking forward to serving as your Mayor. I suspect that my greatest frustration will be the scarcity of time to do everything that should be done. That is why I hope to draw even more on the talents of the council and citizens. I am proud of our accomplishments. I am also convinced we can build a better New Brighton by working together."
