Council Minutes
September 12, 1984

I

Benke envisions a contract with the option to renew in year-
two and a second option to renew in year-three, with a
price-not-to-exceed for each of the options. If that is
acceptable to the contractor, we would know what the costs
would be.

Cass indicated that a year age there seemed to be a lot
more certainty about the process. Would like to see condi-
tions in the contract; what would cost of independent water
test be?

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Janecek, to CONTINUE THIS
PUBLIC HEARING ON LAKE DIANE IMPROVEMENTS UNTIL THE COUNCIL
MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 25, 1984.

With regard to liability, City Attorney advised that there
would be homeowners liability if they decided to handle the
equipment. City Attorney also clarified when new homes
would be assessed.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Council Business

I

Ken Simons, Ramsey County Park Planner, reviewed status of
Long Lake Park development with council.

Council expressed concern about whether or not the park
could be used during the 1984-85 winter, particularly for
cross-country skiing.

Benke asked if plans for the building have been seen
by our Park Board and reviewed from a city perspective for
consistency with the Master Plan and/or our building codes.

Simons indicated the final completion of the park is
scheduled for October, 1985; beach will not be completed
until 1986.

With regard to the cross-country skiing, Simons suggested
the City write to the Ramsey County Park and Recreation
administration to stimulate a positive response.

I

Ramsey County received a letter from the Long Lake Improve-
ment Association. Any changes to the Master Plan will be
in response to the letter; have also received requests
from the New Brighton Historical Society.

Motion by Benke, seconded by Schmidt, to DIRECT STAFF TO
DIRECT A LETTER TO RAMSEY COUNTY ASKING FOR SPECIFIC
INFORMATION AS TO THE AVAILABILITY OF LONG LAKE REGIONAL
PARK FOR USE; IF LIMITED, DISCUSS LIMITATIONS.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Page Six

Council Business

Long Lake Park
Development -
Ken Simons
