New Bri ghton City Counc il
Regular Meeting
December 13, 1983
Page #2

I Mr. Ray McCullough
change the name of

representing the petitioners requested that the Council
14th Street.

Street Name
Change -
14th Street
McCullough
Report #83-271

Mrs. Diane Thompson stated that she objected to the name change in that
she lived on 14th Street and has no desire to see her street renamed.
She noted that there was a tremendous amount of records that would have
to be changed.

Mr. McCullough stated that there were 25 lots yet unsold and that the 4-5
residents that are currently in the new development would like to see the
name changed. Mr. McCullough stated that it is a burden to change the
name of a street but not a large one.

Councilmember Benke questioned staff as to the costs associated to changing
the name of a street.

Director of Community Development stated that in a previous situation in
May area residents and the post office had indicated a maximum cost of
a round $200-$J00.

Diane Harstad9 developer, stated that she felt $200-$300 was too high and that
she had moved several times in the last few years and that cost had never
I been reached.

Mr. McCullough stated that petitioners would be happy to pay all of the
verifiable costs for people to change their records.

Diane Thompson stated that she did not care about the cost she simply did not
want the name of her street changed.

Mayor Harcus stated he felt the renaming of the street would be inappropriate
as a policy issue.

Councilmember Janecek stated that she agreed with the Mayor and noted that she
felt the renalri'ng of Palmer Drive was a mistake. Councilmerrber Janecek
stated that she would oppose a street name change.

Councilmember Benke noted that everyone seemed to be in agreement with changing
the name of the cul-de-sac however there was a problem with changing the name
of 14th Street and he felt this was a conflict.

Councilmember Blomquist stated he felt it was appropriate to consider a
change to the street name. Councilmember Blomquist stated he felt the change
proposed was very small in light of the plat that was approved and had the
name been proposed originally it probably would have received approval.

I Motion by Harcus, seconded by Janecek to deny the petition to change the
name of 14th. Street and to a.pprov.e tho e name. change of Innsbruck Terrace to
Brookshire Court. _
2 Ayes - 3 Nayes (Benke, Blomquist, Schmidt), Motion Failed

Motion by Blcmquist, seconded by Benke to direct staff to prepare a resolution
changing the name of 14th Street to Brookshire Lane and change the name of
Innsbruck Terrace to Brookshire Court.

',.;,..'....' .'~.~:o,-'~<..?,..':,' ~~;,~'~;.:'.'::'".,+ ..

:::""'~:~: :.,.:.
