I

City of New Brighton
June 28, 1983
Page Three

interests of potential new employees.

The Acting City Manager noted that the City Attor-
ney had been requested to review this item.

Mayor Harcus stated that his understanding was
that the Liquor Operation management was pro-
posing to bring forth a recommendation regarding
a perpetual inventory system to the City Council
in the near future.

Councilmernber Benke stated that his concern
was that the Liquor Operation perpetual inventory
system and computer system must be tied into the
rest of the City and in particular the Finance
Department.

Councilmember Schmidt stated that he agreed with
Councilmember Benke that the data processing needs
of the entire City should be reviewed and that the
Liquor Operation should be part of this overall
system.

I

Motion by Harcus, seconded by Schmidt to direct
the Financial Policy Advisory Board to form a
sub-committee to review and make appropriate
recommendations regarding the data processing
needs of the City.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes - motion carried

Councilmember Schmidt stated that the Council
feels the City has an excellent staff and that
they have a great deal of trust and confidence
in them. He also stated that for various reasons
(time commitments, workloads, etc.) there may be
a breakdown in procedures in any department.
He further stated that a state-of-the-art computer
system would help to alleviate the possibility
of procedures and policies breaking down.

Councilmember Benke stated that he would like
to draw this whole matter to a close. He indicated
that the Acting City Manager had talked to the City
Prosecuter, and that he would request that the City
Attorney review the files and take appropriate action.

I

Motion by Benke, seconded by Janecek to direct staff
and City Prosecuter to review all existing files and
information together with the City and County Attorneys
to determine what action would be appropriate and to
report back to the Council as soon as possible.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes - motion carried
