<br />~ )'r <br /> <br />~ -1- ~ <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />83-100 <br /> <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS TO ALLOW THE CITY OF! <br />COLUMBIA HEIGHTS TO CONTINUE TO SUPPLY WATER TO A SMALL RESIDENTIAL; <br />AREA IN THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a small area in the City of New Brighton located <br />north of County Road E and east of Stinson Boulevardr has been <br />a problem to serve with adequate water pressure as a result of <br />its high elevation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this small area which consists of 29 single family <br />homes and 25 townhouses has been served by a continual running <br />booster station which required high maintenance and was inadequate <br />for providing proper fire flows; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Columbia Heights had existing watermains <br />within 50 feet of this problem area which are at a higher pressure <br />than the New Brighton and Minneapolis water system; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result of some recent unrelated problems <br />between the Minneapolis Water Department and the city of Columbia <br />Heights, the Minneapolis Water Department has ordered the City of <br />Columbia Heights to discontinue serving the small area in the <br />City of New Brighton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as the Minneapolis Water Department owns 35 acres of <br />tax exempt land in the City of New Brighton for its ground water <br />storage tanks for which the City of New Brighton must provide cer- , <br />tain police and fire services although no tax revenues are received; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the residents of New Brighton have incurred substan- <br />tial costs related to the construction of new water wells to replaae <br />contaminated water resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the increased debt levy to pay for the bond costs for <br />the new water wells and a reduction in local government aid has <br />resulted in increased property taxes to the residents of New <br />Brighton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the spirit and intent of metropolitan government is <br />for inter-city cooperation and benefit. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the <br />City of New Brighton requests the City Council of the City of <br />Minneapolis to allow the City of Columbia Heights to continue <br />to supply water to the small area in the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Adopted this 23rd day of August, 1983. <br /> <br />~H~~ <br /> <br /> <br />, --J[P7'-'~' <br />/';, A." ,_ <br />J'~mes F. <br />" I <br />V <br /> <br />l -],-," f.. <br />r . 1/ r:c,,-h>./ " <br />Winkels, Acting City Mgf. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Egan, Flnance Dlrector <br /> <br />--......-............... <br /> <br />-tSEAL}- <br /> <br />-~ ....-....'-~ " <br />./ <br />.' <br /> <br />.;:;. <br /> <br />.......;... ~"" , . <br />~~,.......... -...... ....- <br />.... ~ ,~~.
