~/- , . ARTICLE IV. COMMISSIONS DIVISION 1. GENERALLY Sec. 2-56. Generally. -r- , . The City of New Brighton Mayor and City Council wish to utilize members of the community in an advisory capacity to assist themselves and staff in achieving City goals and objectives and to ensure citizen ideas are well represented in the policy making process. Citizen advisory commissions representing various functional operating areas are and will be established by this Article. The general operating principles set forth in this Division apply to all commissions. Sec. 2-57. Name. All boards, committees, and commissions will be named or renamed "commissions." Sec. 2-58. Commission Size. All new commissions will have nine members. Commissions established before January 1, 1995 will be allowed to set their own size, not to exceed nine, based on their new purpose, duties and responsibilities established herein. Sec. 2-59. Appointment. The members of all commissions will be appointed by the city council. Sec. 2-60. Removal. Any member of a commission may be removed from office by a majority vote of the city council. Sec. 2-61. Compensation. The members of the commissions will serve without compensation. Sec. 2-62. Commission Member Terms. New commission members will be appointed to three year terms. The expiration date of each of the terms will be December 31. If a commission member resigns from any commission in the middle of a term, the city council will appoint a new member to the commission to complete the term of the vacated seat. Commission appointments will be varied so approximately 1/3 of each commissions member's terms expire each year. Sec. 2-63. Commission Leadership. CLL80560 NE136-98
