All newly hired members <br />11 of the Department shall serve a one (1) year probationary period <br />Uas an apprentice firefighter. In order to be eligible for <br />H promotion to the position of regular firefighter an apprentice <br />II firefighter must make satisfactory pro-?ress ~n the learnin-? of <br />ltwork tasks and must have an advanced f~rst a~d card or equ~valent. <br />iiThe recommendation to promote the apprentice firefighter shall <br />if be made to the City Manager upon a majority vote of the membership <br />i!at a monthly meeting. The Department, upon a majority vote of the <br />11 membership, may extend the probationary period for a good cause. <br />II If an apprentice firefighter fails to receive a majority vote for <br />!appointment, the Department shall recommend to the city Manager <br />11 that such person be dismissed. <br /> <br />11 SECTION 9-64. Selection of Officers. Officers of the <br />1: Department shall be elected by a majority vote in a secret ballot <br />II election to be held annually at an established time during the <br />I! November meeting. The time of the election shall be set by the <br />!; Chief at least one month before the election. Apprentice fire- <br />il fighters are not eligible to be officers, nor are they eligible <br />,( to vote. There shall be no absentee ballots nor voting by proxy. <br />!~ The results of such election shall be reviewed by the Manager who <br />!: shall approve or reject such results. Duties of the Chief. The Chief shall preside at al <br />!!meetings of the Department and be in charge of the Department <br />11 operations at fires, drills, emergency calls and other departmenta <br />II functions. It shall be the duty of the Chief to enforce the <br />1; applicable provisions of this ordinance and establish rules and <br />pregulations of the Department. The Chief shall review and verify <br />i;Department payrolls. The Chief shall have control over all of the <br />;; fire-fighting apparatus and shall be solely responsible for its <br />:jcare and condition.
