<br /> I <br /> ~ <br />" < <br />. 1546 , <br /> , <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1 <br /> , <br /> I <br /> , <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br /> CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> RESOLUTION URGING ADOPTION OF LEGISLATION TO DISTRIBU~E RAILROAD <br /> AND TELEPHONE GROSS EARNINGS TAXES TO LOCAL UNITS OF GOVERNMENT <br /> WHEREAS inflation has caused municipal property taxes <br /> to increase over the last several years, and <br /> WHEREAS levy limits have reduced the growth of property <br /> taxes but also has curtailed public services or prevented <br /> demanded new services from being possible, and <br /> WHEREAS the New Brighton City Council strongly favors <br /> reduction or stabilization of municipal property taxes and <br /> local ability to provide necessary services, and <br /> WHEREAS distribution of railroad and telephone gross <br /> earnings taxes to cities provides a workable vehicle to <br /> accomplish both of the above noted purposes <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Council of the <br /> City of New Brighton respectfully urges the Minnesota State <br /> Legislature to distribute all of the telephone and railroad <br /> gross earnings taxes, amounting to $46 million in 1976 and <br /> $49 million in 1977, to local units of gove~nment <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That 50 percent of the distribution <br /> be made part of the levy limitations and 50% above the levy i <br /> limitations in order to help aid in accompll.shing the two I <br /> purposes noted heretofor <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be ! <br /> transmitted to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, New Brighto~l' <br /> Senator and Representative, and to the Chairmen of the Senate <br /> Committee on Finance, Senate Committee on Taxes and Tax Laws, <br /> House Committee on Appropriations, and House Committee on Taxes. <br /> j <br /> Adopted this 22nd day of April, 1975 <br /> ATTEST: <br /> ~~..e-D~~_ <br /> Vernon G.
