<br /> ! --. <br />~ <br />+ I' · <br /> r, <br />~' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1545 <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> COUNTY OF RAMSEY i <br /> I <br /> CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON I <br />RESOLUTION STATING POSITION OF THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON REGARDING <br />THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S ROLE IN THE PLANNING OF THE SEVEN <br />COUNTY METROPOLITAN AREA <br /> WHEREAS the Minnesota Legislature is currently considering <br />what authority the Metropolitan Council should have regarding <br />land use, guided growth, and general comprehensive planning <br />decisions in the seven-county metropolitan area, and <br /> WHEREAS it is clear that there is an interrelationship <br />betwe~n municipalities and a need to centrally coordinate those <br />physical aspects of the metropolitan area which are of area-wide <br />significance, and , <br /> WHEREAS local government is in the best position to determin~ <br />local needs, desires, and resources and is the only level of i <br />government thab can:,plan for local needs and integrate those needs: <br />with the metropolitan physical systems <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Council of the City <br />of New Brighton respectfully requests of the Minnesota Legislature, <br />that the Metropolitan Council be given land-use control authority ; <br />over local government comprehensive plans as such local plans , <br /> , <br />relate to airports, and metropolitan waste control, transportation~ <br />and preservation of regional recreation open space <br /> , <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That such legislation should clearly <br />limit the Metropolitan Council's authority to the above areas i <br />leaving inherent local government decisions to local government <br /> I <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That local government be given a <br />strong role in the development of metropolitan systems plans in , <br />order to assure that local government' prob.).ems, concerns, and <br />long-range plans will be considered in those me~ropolitan systems i <br />that will have an effect on local government <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk be and is <br />hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolutiDn to New <br />Brighton's State Legislators. <br />Adopted this 22nd day of April, 1975 <br />ATTEST: ~..,,,.. <br />~..(i-(20~ <br />Vernon c.
