CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />WHEREAS <br />On March 10, 2018, Tibetans will gather in their host countries to commemorate the 59th <br />anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising against the occupation of Tibet and to honor <br />more than one million Tibetans who have died in this struggle; and <br />WHEREAS <br />The occupation and ongoing suppression of human rights and freedom in Tibet and <br />the continuous degradation of culture, religion, economic, and the annihilation of <br />the Tibetan people's identity should be a concern for all; and <br />WHEREAS <br />Tibetan Buddhism and its spiritual leader in exile His Holiness the Dalai Lama are <br />recognized for their teachings on compassion, forgiveness and tolerance; and <br />WHEREAS <br />The Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota was founded in 1992, and has over 5000 <br />Tibetan members — many of whom live in the city of New Brighton, is committed to <br />promoting and preserving the Tibetan culture, heritage and religion; and <br />WHEREAS <br />It is only fitting that we affirm the determination of the Tibetan people in Tibet and in - <br />exile to retain their heritage and protect it from destruction against overwhelming odds <br />through non-violent and peaceful means: <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Valerie Johnson, Mayor of the City of New Brighton, Minnesota <br />declare that the day of March 10, 2018 will be: <br />Tibet Day in the City ofl Neve Brighton <br />the oily Thal wnrks for you <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand <br />and caused the Seal of the City of New Brighton, <br />Minnesota to be affixed this 27'h day of February, 2018. <br />L.— /qc 672 <br />VALERIE JOHNSON MAYOR <br />
