CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />WHEREAS Charlotte "Char" Samuelson was a long-time New Brighton resident who was active <br />in her community through her service as a Rotarian and as a 28 -year member of Salem <br />Covenant Church; and <br />WHEREAS Char served on the New Brighton City Council from 1994 through 2004 and again <br />from 2010 through 2013 attending well over 800 meetings; and <br />WHEREAS During her tenure as a Councilmember, Char was instrumental in, among other things, <br />implementing our first remote water meter reading program, expanding our public <br />safety department, constructing the first Eagle's Nest, completing the Fridley Water <br />Interconnection Project, working with the U.S. Army on groundwater cleanup; and <br />collaborating with ISD 621 on Athletic Facilities at Highview; and <br />WHEREAS Char was involved in numerous street, utility, stormwater, telecommunications, and <br />park improvement projects including construction of neighborhood centers and the <br />clubhouse at Brightwood Hills Golf Course as well as numerous redevelopment <br />projects including the Rice Creek Center and the NW Quandrant; and <br />WHEREAS Char took her passion for the community to the state level, serving two terms in the <br />Minnesota House of Representatives for District 50B where she advocated for <br />increasing healthcare access, maintaining education funding and bringing high tech <br />jobs to her District; and <br />WHEREAS Char Samuelson passed away on December 8, 2018 after a 15+ year battle with <br />Parkinson's Disease that did not define her or stop her from serving others; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE I, VALERIE JOHNSON, Mayor of The City of New Brighton, Minnesota do <br />hereby celebrate the life and contributions or <br />33 NEW <br />BRIGHTON <br />building tomorrow today <br />Clitar Samuelson <br />in the City of New Brighton. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Seal of' the City of New Brighton, <br />Minnesota 7,,, <br />ajxed thisofJanuary, 2019. <br />1,, ., _1y? <br />VALERIE JOHNSON — MA YOR <br />
