<br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-019 <br /> <br />~. <br /> <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ANNUAL DARE BIKE-A- THaN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of New Brighton has determined it would be in <br />the best interest of the City to assume responsibility for the DARE (Drug Abuse <br />Resistance Education) Bike-a- Thon program previously a New Brighton Rotary Program; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the DARE Bike-a- Thon program raises money for the DARE program which is <br />an early prevention program and educates children in the dangers of drugs and aims to <br />prevent drug usage by building self.esteem in children so that they can say "no" to drugs; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bike-a- Thons have been very successful in raising money for this <br />important program noting an approximate $20,000 raised for each of the two years the <br />Bike-a- Thon has been held; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Rotary indicates its willingness to continue to support the program for <br />volunteer resources and in the planning efforts of the Bike-a- Thons; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City has continually supported the DARE program by providing a New <br />Brighton Police Officer as the DARE Officer to the New Brighton elementary schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City wishes to expand its support for the DARE program by supporting <br />and coordinating the Bike-a- Thon; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the transfer of responsibility to the City would enable this beneficial <br />fundraising event to continue. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of New Brighton to <br />hereby direct the City staff to assume responsibility for the Bike-a- Thon with the <br />understanding that all civic organizers be encouraged to continue to support the Bike-a- <br />Thon by providing volunteers and other necessary support. <br /> <br />Adopted by the City Council this <br /> <br />22nd day of Februarv ,1994. <br /> <br />( ~ ~A _ _ L/:;;'f p.? <br />7'[:;..e4::lf~> . ~<-- <br />Robert J/~enke, Mayor <br /> <br />;t~ 7> ar- <br />M hew S.
