<br />,-" <br /> <br />>! <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />88-29 <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT <br />PAUL HOSTING THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPICS <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Secretary General of the United States <br />Olympic Committee has initiated an inquiry to determine <br />whether the cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul are inter- <br />ested in hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the mayors of Minneapolis-Saint Paul have <br />asked area municipalities for their general support to <br />the concept of hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metro Area enjoys <br />a temperate summer climate well suited to international <br />athletic competitions and now possesses numerous excel- <br />lent athletic facilities suitable as Olympic venues; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metro Area has <br />the capacity to provide the necessary accommodations to <br />support visiting athletes and spectators; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the 1996 Summer Olympic Games would bring <br />significant revenues to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metro <br />Area as well as extensive international recognition with- <br />out expending taxpayer funds; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of New <br />Brighton, State of Minnesota, hereby expresses to the <br />Mayors of Minneapolis and Saint Paul its firm support for <br />the concept of hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 1996. <br /> <br />Adopted this 22nd day of March, 1988. <br /> <br /> <br />Acting Mayor <br /> <br />Henr <br /> <br />--~ <br />City Manager <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />Margar' A.
