<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, August 10, 1999, <br />at 7:30 p,m_ in the municipal building, 803 Old Highway 8 NW, <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gunderman, Hoffman, Larson, and Samuelson. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Margaret Egan, Finance Director <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br />Cary Teague, City Planner <br /> <br />Council welcomed Councilmember of the Month, Lynn Besch. <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Larson, to APPROVE COUNCIL AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE JULY 27, 1999, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried, <br /> <br />Commission Minutes - None <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />City Manager Matthew Fulton explained that the Lunds Grocery Store, which has been <br />located in New Brighton for more than 25 years, has closed its doors. This closure is a <br />significant loss to the community, but the City is grateful for their long term presence. <br />Tres Lund, Lunds President, thanked the community and its patrons for their many years <br />in New Brighton, In recognition to those patrons, Lunds announced a donation of <br />$10,000 to be used for the construction of a gazebo in Meadowood Park. Benke said the <br />closing is a great loss to the community, but thanked Lunds for their donation. Larson <br />asked if there was anything the City could have done to convince Lunds to remain in New <br />Brighton. Lund explained that upgrading the facility to current standards would have <br />involved significant capital investments, and because of that the decision was made to <br />close this location, Lund said about 95 % of the New Brighton store employees have been <br />relocated to other Lunds facilities, <br /> <br />Motion by Larson, seconded by Hoffman, to WAIVE THE READING AND ADOPT <br />THE RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM LUNDS FOOD STORES <br />TO BE USED TO CONSTRUCT A GAZEBO AT MEADOWOOD PARK. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Councilmember of the <br />month <br /> <br />Council Allenda <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Special, Order of <br />Business <br /> <br />Lunds Donation <br />Report 99-177 <br />Resolution 99-073 <br />
