In preparing final plans for the proposed expansion
the architect found it necessary to raise a portion of the roof
to a 47' height. The additionalheight is to allow installation
of pollution control equipment. Rather than set this equipment:on
the roof, as is frequently done, the roof has been raised in -this
area and the equipment enclosed within the building. This will
allow better maintenance, reduce wear and tear due to weather,.
and improve the aesthetics of the building. Were this equipment
simply set on the roof and not enclosed, it would not be considered
part of the building height.
The Fire Department has raised no objection regarding the
additional height. They did suggest that fire hydrants be
installed on the east and west sides of the building. This
suggestion has been incorporated in the plans
Planning Commission Consideration (10-15-74):
The Chairman read the background discussion;
Thomas Stahl, architect for the applicant, and Chuck
Kausel were present to answer questions.
Harty asked if the 40' height limitation was the result of
a concern for fire protection.
The Building and Planning Coordinator stated that he did
not know the origin.of this specific requirement and-that he had
not yet received any commentary from the Fire Department regarding
the plans.
