PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />Augu s t 7 , i. 9?i!- <br />The meeting was called to order at 8°05 p.m. <br />Board members present'. Cook, Dahl, Gunderman, Smith, Sullivan, Weissman <br />and Council Representative Eagon. Jasinski appeared at 8°l~- p.m. <br />Others present; Bernard Edmonds, Director of Parks and Recreation for <br />Ramsey ,County; Shelney Bier and Dottie Stone, League of Woman Voters9 <br />Dennis Chantland, Robert Pierson, Michael Rocca and other City residents9 <br />Charles Corlett, Assistant Director and Robert Wicklund, Director of <br />Park and Recreation Department. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of June 26, 197L1- were corrected as <br />follows. Of those present from the 29th Avenue N.Tr1. area adds Thrun, <br />Constock, Twohig, Rappel, Helmbrecht, Engstrom, Miller, Perrington, <br />Erickson, Pesklo, Me Cauley, Kroeak, Lunacek and Nelson. Under discussion <br />of proposed park development 29th Avenue N.W. add the following comments, <br />1_lth line after."to the state" adds Perrington commented that obviously <br />something would eventually be developed on the property and that it would <br />be desirable as a park. On the 21st line change Turnbull to Jacobson. <br />On the 28th line after "_plantings" addo Mattson encouraged caution in <br />protecting the overall environment a,s the park is developed. On the <br />35th line after "change" adde Ginkel noted that even though there had <br />been considerable discussion about what is placed where, we wish to <br />com..pliment the Park Board for its vision in allowing for afull-service <br />park for the area. Minutes approved as corrected. <br />Received Petition <br />Motion by Dahl, seconded by Weissman to receive petition from residents <br />of the 29th Avenue N.W. area indicating support for the Park Board's <br />development plan for the N.W. park site. Dahl stated that she was <br />pleased with the hearings and thought it was a good thing for the Park. <br />Board to do. Motion carried. <br />Ramsey County Open Space Proposal <br />Mr. Bernard Edmonds, Parks and Recreation Director for Ramsey County <br />appeared before the Board to discuss the County's proposal for pre- ~, <br />liminary development of the Rush Lake-Rice Creek-Long Lake park areas <br />and the joint application of Ramsey County and New Brighton to Metro <br />Council for funds for this development. Mr. Edmonds explained that <br />these three parcels were part of a recreation corridor running from <br />Lino Lakes to the Mississippi and that Ramsey Coun~;y had already <br />received approximately 1.6 million in grants for acquisition. He <br />explained that the County was recommending that development plans be <br />initiated for Rush Lake, Rice Creek and Long Lake and that if Ncw Brighton <br />were to join the County in applying for funds to Metro Council it would <br />enhance the application's chances. The development plan erriphasized <br />preservation of natural areas and the perpetuation of open space; it <br />
