Weissman appeared at 80-0 P.M.
Others present:. Robert M. TnTicklund and representatives from Windsor
Green.
Board members absent: Hagemeyer.
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 7, 1972 were approved as
submitted.
Potential Park Area Near Silver Lake Road and County Road E
Peter Hauser, 116 Windsor Green, presented a proposal on behalf of
residents of Windsor Green concerning the possibility of Village
purchase of a 6.5 acre parcel on County Road E and Silver Lake Road
to use far park land, Mr. Hauser stated that the area around-this
intersection was densely populated because of the many townhouses and
apartments and that a park in that area would receive heavy use. The
parcel they were recommending is presently zoned commercial; it contains
two ponds and Mr. Hauser stated that he felt it would make a good
natural wildlife area. He had spoken with the owner concerning the
asking price of the property and received an estimate of $250,000. He
recommended that the Village consider purchase of this property and.
investigate the possibility of obtaining federal funds for such purchase,.
Sherlock stated that while he .sympathized with the plight within the
area, and the Board had previously considered the purchase of park land
in that neighborhood, present financial resources were extremely scarce.
It was explained that revenues from the 1968 Bond Issue were completely
exhausted and the Park Board had recently secured funds from Liquor
Surpluses to purchase two sites in other areas of the Village having
a much higher priority need.
Gunderman commented that he felt that the department should survey the
area to determine what recreational resources were available before the
Board completely dismissed the proposal.
George Orning, also a resident of Windsor Green, inquired as to the
possibility of exploring cooperative efforts between St, Anthony and
New Brighton on the Silver Dak School site. It was noted that certain
efforts had already been made in this direction and again depending
on finances the proposal of some kind of joint development of that site
did exist. Mr. Orning also noted that the Salvation Army owned a large
tract of undeveloped land across Silver Lake Road which they use as a
Day Camp. It was suggested that the possibility of joint-use of that
property also be considered.
