p ~' SPECIAL PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES June 9, 1971 The meeting was called to order at 9:24 P.M. Board Members Present:. Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock and Smith Absent: Weissman Others Present: Councilman and Mjs. E. E. Fisher The minutes of the meeting of June 2, 1971 were approved as submitted. A discussion of the Ramsey County Park Plan was added to the agenda. PARK ACQUISITION PLAN The Park Board, after touring various proposed future park sites, dis- cussed the preparation of a list of parcels to be recommended to the Planning .Commission for inclusion in the Comprehensive Plan.. By consensus the following sites were omitted from future consideration for reasons of unsuitibility: 1. Long Lake Point - 2 acres at the end of l6A St. N.W. 2. 4 acre parcel south of 10th St. N.. W. at 9th Ave. N.W. 3. 6.6 acre parcel on S. E. corner of Oakwood Drive and 3rd St. S.4d. The remaining parcels were then discussed as to priority. Gunderman favored the 12 acre parcel on the 5. W. corner of 29th Ave. N. W. and 18A Street because the area lacks other facilities. Dahl, Smith and Sherlock proposed the 3 acre parcel on 1st St. S. E. and Cleveland Ave. as the most crucial because of the scarcity of land and the apparent length of time before Arden Hills develops the Perry Park Site. Hagemeyer requested that the area on Silver Lake Road and 694 be increased in size so that its present use for motorcycles and snowmobiles could. be retained. It was pointed out that the Park Board's present concern. is neighborhood park areas and this type of facility is not compatible with snowmobiles and motorcycles. Dahl moved that the Park Board present to the Planning Commission a park acquisition plan including the following sites in order of priority: 1. 3 acre parcel on the corner of Cleveland Ave. and 1st St• S.6d. 2. A 12 acre parcel on the S. 67. corner of 29th Ave. N.W. and 18A St. 3. A 7 acre parcel on the N. W. corner of 694 and Silver Lake Rd. 4. Lease of a portion of property on Driftwood Lane and Sth St. N.4d. (United Theological Seminary.) Second - Hagemeyer. Motion passed. It was requested that the Planning Commission be contacted to arrange for the. Park Board to appear. at their next meeting on July 9, 1971 to present. ' the proposed plan. The Park Board will hold their regular July meeting on that date following the session with the Planning Commission.
