NEW BRIGH`T'ON PARR BOARD
MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 5, 1990
I. The meeting was cal-led to order at 7:30pm by Chair Ken Johnson
II. Members present: Carlson, Kalina, Rose, Eichers, Seward, Johnson,
Van Hatten, and Council Rep. Steve Larson
City Manager Dave Childs was present and Mike
Kreidler from the Lake Region Hockey Assoc.
Absent: Ocel, Olson
III. Minutes of June 6, 1990
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Seward to approve the Minutes of
June 6, 1990.
IV. Correspondence
A. Long Lake Advisory Committee
No meeting held.
V. New Business
The Park Board inquired about the status of the Elliot Funk
property.
Anderson said the property was not greatly needed and the price
was rather. .high. A decision was postponed until December -
after the Community Center referendum.
A. Lake Region Hockey Association Ice Arena Proposal
Mike Kreidler was present representing the Lake Region Hockey
Association. Kreidler explained the LRHA's history. There
about 500 kids involved on the Mounds View side and about 300
on the Irondale side. LRHA's goal is to increase these
numbers. LRHA has raised about $125,000 toward an ice arena.
Approximately $400,000-500,000 is needed to build an ice arena.
The LRHA is hoping to get the land donated and that is why they
are approaching New Brighton. LRHA would finance, build and
donate the hockey rink to the City if the City donated the
land. Kreidler feels that if they could get a commitment on
the land, the fund raising would be made easier. LRHA would
approach corporations to help raise the money.
Delano School District just built a rink for $650,000. They
had a down payment of $80,000. They have about 80 participants
in their program. They have scheduled about 1,900 hours of ice
time at $75/hr.
