NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES. DECEMBER 6, 1989 I. The meeting was called to order 7:30 p.m. II. Members present: Carlson, Kalina, Ocel, Olson, Rose, Seward, Council Rep. Gunderman III. Minutes of October 4, 1989 No action taken IV. Correspondence A. Council Report Gunderman stated the Council had a special session. The City lost $480,000 from state aids. This money will go to the schools. No the City is looking at an 18o increase in the tax rate. No gro~~rth in services is expected. Doing the community center with the National Guard may not be the best way. In talking with other communities that have an armory/community center, we found we may not be able to use some of the facilities such as the kitchen and lockers. Anderson stated this may change because the last talks with the National Guard showed they are willing to negotiate those kinds of things. They also. commented that they would be willing to fund the parking. They were going beyond what was expected. Anderson said the Steering Committee and Task Force is giving this issue careful analysis, Kalina asked if there will be a Joint Powers Agreement. Gunderman responded yes. Gunderman said if the City funds the community center alone we could go with 6 acres less. Anderson said the National Guard stated there is not a building in the U.S, Like this facility - New Brighton is breaking the rules of the past and that it why things are taking longer, Anderson said committees and staff are working very hard on community issues. Ken Johnson is one who has put much time and effort i.ntn this. Anderson said the Senior Citizen Van has been ordered. After January 1 delivery it will go to the conversion company to have the roof raised and other extras done. Rose inquired about the Kitchen Band using it. Anderson said that-kind of use is what it's for.
