AUGUST 2, 1.989 PARK BOARD. MINUTES <br />2 <br />Anderson said that Maple Grove is in court about restricting the <br />number of boats. New Brighton may be forced to make some <br />changes depending on the outcome of the Maple Grove situation. <br />Gunderman asked about the milfoil weed. <br />Anderson said the attendant is checking for the weed and owners <br />also check. A barrel for disposal is available. <br />Gunderman asked the time frame for the next time the silt would <br />be cleaned out from the Rice Creek sedimentation pond. <br />Anderson said it will probably be done soon - it's about every 5 <br />years. <br />Seward asked Gunderman why the sidewalk on Silver Lake Road and <br />E did not extend up to Stinson. <br />Gunderman-said he didn't recalled if there was a specific reason <br />- it may have to do with future development. <br />B. Long Lake Advisory Committee <br />No report. <br />C. Community Center Task Force <br />Maurie Anderson, Margaret Egan, Samantha Orduno, and Ken Johnson <br />went to Denver to look at their community centers. <br />Johnson said there was an open community center meeting in June. <br />At the meeting discussion included introduction, needs, trends, <br />components for New Brighton. Comments ranged from having a <br />theatre, shooting range, ice arena. The Task Force made a <br />recommendation to the City Council that there .was a need for a <br />community center and combined armory and this should be <br />explored. The Council went to a working session. At that <br />session slides from the Denver trip were shown. The City <br />Council recommended to the staff to look at different sites. <br />Anderson said the city is looking at Dick Bury's property near <br />Beisswenger's and Long Lake Park and 3 other sites. The plan <br />for the best way to finance this is going to .the City Council <br />next Tuesday. The Council will be looking at the cost proposal <br />to see if it fits into the sites. :The City may be issuing a <br />bond referendum in the spring. <br />Johnson asked what others have been hearing from the community.. <br />Seward said they want a community center but they don't want to <br />pay for it. <br />Rose said the seniors want it. <br />
