` AUGUST 2, 1989 PARK BOARD MINUTES 3 <br />Johnson said some of his neighbors have been talking and the one <br />thing they would like. to see as part of the community center. <br />complex is a fine restaurant - the equivalent of Kozlak's. <br />Anderson said since Brandywine. expanded .their menu - you can <br />barely get in. <br />Rose said there are not many good eating places in New Brighton. <br />Johnson said another thing his neighbors talked about was that <br />they would be willing to buy a table for $2,000-$5,000. <br />Anderson said - in essence having a share in the restaurant. <br />Anderson said the armory would have'a gym and .shooting range,, <br />class rooms, theatre style room (seats, stage). <br />Johnson stated this is their .headquarters for the 5-State area. <br />Anderson said we are getting a lot free. Charges would be things <br />like a pool and restaurant. The hockey association .said they <br />would like to see enough land purchased so there could be an ice <br />arena later. This could go in without much city development <br />costa <br />Seward said it seems that everyone supports it. <br />Johnson said we haven't told them the money issue yet. Was <br />surprised by the restaurant issue. <br />Anderson said that Dick Pellow has been talking about for some. <br />time. The City would benefit beyond the social side of it. <br />Kalina asked if child care or Latch Key has been mentioned as <br />part of the community center. <br />Anderson said child care yes but not Latch Key. The child care <br />would be only for those using the facilities. <br />Seward asked if there would be dues. <br />Anderson said there will be user fees with discounts for New <br />Brighton residents. <br />Kalina asked if people don't want a Latch Key program. <br />Johnson-said he didn't say that, only that it has not been <br />expressed. as a need. <br />
