MAY 3, 1989 PARK BOARD MINUTES
2
Gunderman said that the quotations for the Veterans path and
specifications for Freedom Park lighting were approved. An
office building is being considered on the corner of Long
Lake Road and 694 overlooking the lake. Before the council
meeting there was a discussion of the area off Silver Lake
Road between County Road E and Driftwood Park. Townhomes,
houses and business are all being considered for this area.
One proposal was looked at but it showed a road going through
the park.
Johnson said a business would do better in this area -
doesn't think housing will make it.
Gunderman asked Anderson if the city funded the bridge across
Mississippi to Long Lake Park would Ramsey County reimburse
us?
Anderson ..thought they would.
Gunderman said that way we could get it done soon. If we
wait for the county, it may be quite a few years.
Anderson said a wrinkle has appeared in getting the trails
in. Ramsey County has totally exhausted funds. The trail
system stops at the-large group picnic-area. Need about 1/2
mile more of trail. The price has gone up. The boat landing
ate up all the funds. The trail through the boat launch will
not go up to Long Lake Road this year. .Anderson hoped to get
it at least to the parking lot but Ramsey County said they
don't have funds this year. No funds until late 1990.
Anderson said we will need about $50,000-$60,000. We would
need some kind of legal document. Ramsey County said they'd
love it if the city would do it.
Johnson asked if we could get a loan.
Anderson said for political reasons he wouldn't recommend it.
Gunderman said that his personal opinion, not speaking for
the council, is that he would like to see access to the park
as soon as possible.
Johnson asked if there is a project somewhere that we could
cut or delay so we could do the trail now.
Anderson said the only money we have is the Silver Lake Road
project.
Olson said she would like to see the trails in and the park
in use.
MOTION BY OLSON, SECONDED BY CARLSON, TO RECOMMEND THAT STAFF
RESEARCH COST AND FINANCING FOR THE COMPLETION OF LONG LAKE
TRAILS AND BRIDGE AND REPORT BACK TO THE PARK BOARD IN JUNE.
