MAY 3, 1989 PARK BOARD MINUTES
B. Community Center Activities

A list of "WHAT WE COULD DO WITH A COMMUNITY CENTER THAT WE
CAN'T DO NOW" WAS RECEIVED BY THE PARK BOARD. Anderson said
he would like to have the Park Board brainstorm and take off,
change or add to this list.
Van Hatten said he did not like the phrase "...that we can't
do now." because we could do all these things now, it is
just a matter of where.
Johnson said as a member of the Community Center Task Force
he will be going to a school out in Colorado and touring nine
facilities most of which have an elevated running track.
Perhaps we would want to add that to the list.
Anderson said the "Y" has one and it gets a lot of use.
Johnson also suggested a cardiovascular area. Stair master
machines get heavy use.
Rose said it would be nice to have an area for bands and
choruses to practice with different levels.
Gunderman felt that Edgegwood may not be available as a
community center much longer. Enrollment shows a school will.
be needed.
Johnson asked if any thought hid been given to outdoor
facilities like tennis courts.
Olson suggested a swimming pool.
Gunderman suggested some kind of a dinner theatre.
Anderson said something like a Good Earth would be good.
Rose asked if there would be fees.
Anderson said we may charge; depending on residency status.
Johnson said that the new fitness club will have a Ciatti's.
This also opens the use up to other meeting groups.
Anderson said the city has considered mixing with the private
sector.
Eichers said employees would need to be qualified, trained
staff which could cost the city a lot of money.
Anderson said we are not that close to planning that
carefully - this is just a wish list..
Johnson suggested bringing a new list next month.
