.December 7, 1988 Park Board Minutes <br />Anderson said the hockey association would like to move all <br />their in-house hockey program to Hansen. <br />Eichers asked if the hockey association would have control <br />of the rinks. <br />Anderson said no. We would program it. <br />Kalina asked what kind of sides would be put up. <br />Anderson said they could be canvas or removable panels or a <br />fence with woven cloth. The area is sheltered by trees. <br />Carlson asked why it is not totally enclosed. <br />6 <br />Anderson said it becomes a supervision problem. Also we <br />don't want to end up with an ice arena in a few years paying <br />$100,000 in maintenance costs. But may agree to a concrete <br />floor a few years down the road. <br />Carlson asked about-the soccer and football use. <br />Anderson said that will be moved to Freedom when the lights <br />.: are installed. <br />Van Hatten asked how tall. this building would be. <br />Anderson said about 16-18' <br />Carlson asked if there would be an overhang on all sides. <br />Anderson said yes, about 20 feet. <br />Rose asked how much space there is between the rinks. <br />Anderson said right now about 15-20 feet because we need <br />some place to put the snow. They will be moved together <br />when they are covered and plexiglass used to separate the <br />rinks. <br />Kalina asked how many people would use these rinks. <br />Anderson said he wasn't sure but it would include the in- <br />house hockey program and also others. <br />Anderson said that White Bear Lake and Hopkins have enclosed <br />rinks with natural ice. They are old buildings but they get <br />extensive use. <br />Carlson said a totally enclosed rink my be colder. <br />
