Harold Foley, 1301 Pike Lake Dr., said he is confused about the trail on the east side. When you get to the church, how do you cross? Anderson said they will go south to where the county puts the cross walk. Dave Erickson, 1029 Pike Lake Dr., said he lives adjacent to the trail. The area is an absolute mess. Don't like to take his daughter there because of the mess and graffiti. Don't live on the lake so don't have some of those other concerns but the physical area couldn't get any worse. Van Hatten asked for a show of hands as to how many have walked the trail. The majority had. A resident responded and said now ask us how we feel. Van Hatten said I think we know that! Dietmar Rose said the lake has unique plotting of property underneath. If the people see access and the lake, it will bring in more people. We see situations that get dangerous with kids jumping off rain sewers. How are you going to give us security. Anderson said that the fact that the lake is plotted has no significance on the liability. We went through similar statements from residents regarding Long Lake Park regarding the use, dangers, wildlife. So far nothing has happened, don't think it will. Plotting has nothing to do with the surface of the lake. You have no more right to use the lake surface than I do. There are some associated risks if someone comes onto your property. People using a canoe will probably not come to Pike Lake. Van Hatten asked if he was understanding properly that it would be illegal for a snowmobile or ATV to be on the trail. Would it be signed? Anderson said yes it would be illegal and yes it would be signed. The city doesn't usually enforce snowmobile regulations, Ramsey County does.
