May 4, 1988 Park Board Minutes 7
Van Hatten asked if the trail actually becomes part of
the park system.
Anderson said yes.
Olson said this-may help with the parties.
Anderson said it should help like it did on the north end
of Long Lake. Major parties are gone.
Stan McDonald said there is a major difference between
Long Lake and Pike Lake. The DNR will say Pike Lake is a
non-access lake and they are not concerned about it, now
you will change the status of the lake.(?)
Anderson said the status would change only if a launch
access was put in, and that's not planned.
Jerry Meyer, 1281 Pike Lake Dr., said they met one month
ago and came up with a list of questions they would like
answers to. Don't want these to be ignored.
Anderson said he would take the questions one by one and
answer them.
Who asked for and wants this trail?
The Park Board generated the trail project as a safe
access into the park
A resident asked if there was a hearing when this went
to the council.
Anderson said there was not a specific hearing on this.
We considered the budget at two or three meetings.
This proposal had 10-12 discussions. The city
routinely publishes council agenda items in the New
Brighton Bulletin. Could have done more to publicize
but there has been no effort to hide it. We are not in
that game.
Is the trail part of a grand plan?
Anderson said the only plan it is a part of is the Long
Lake plan as an access and to enhance the Rice Creek
chain of lakes trails - circle access.
