February 10, 1988 Park Board Minutes
Page 7
Brandt asked if the Park Board's information that has
been gathered could help the Council make this decision.
Johnson saia ~:.~e Park Board's feeling is that it is .very
expensive to build. We have a lot of facilities around
us that we can use. we are not lacking in facilities,
except perhaps an ice are~~a.
Brandt said the m~~nev -i c a fair question.
Eichers said it would be Laugh to find 20 acres in New
Brighton
Anderson said Hansen would be the only area, in what we
currently own, where it woula pe ~,ossible.
Johnson said perhaps Ramsey County and New Brighton
could do sa,«ething jointly at Long L~nc Park a
Anderson said it nearly can't be done. You would have
to have special legisyation.
Eichers feels if thA onr+~rtunity at St. Anthony is not
taken, we may never have the chance again. It is a good
investment.
Anderson said we would have an agreement and both sides
would have some sort of escape clause so we or they
would not be locked into any~~~ing for a long period of
time.
Seward said if we had lots of money, we could buy the
pole yard and put the community center there. It would
be a nice r~~al point.
Eichers asked what the city is doing with the money it
is getting from the Hiiuy .
Brandt said that MaraaYet Egan, Finance Director, is
checking to see how mu~~~ is needed for debts. Sewer is
one and interest. Part of the money will go to reduce
water bills. The residents should be compensated now..
Some are hoping there will be seed money for a community
center, but we don't know.
Johnson said Roseville is putting together a package to
sell development. ~•~Qybe New Brighton could get some
long terms L.:,ings going. There is a lot of land in New
Brighton but it isn't together.
