Andersq~''~'S~,rector of .Parks. and Recreation
z
z Re: Long_Lake Planning Issues.
z
O
_ The Long Lake~Park Advisory Committee has, at its last two
~ meetings, been reviewing plans for development of the boat. launch
m on Long .Lake. The concept plan. was recommended for approval and
~ has been sent to .the New Brighton Park Board for consideration.
11J Long Lake Improvement Association members were present at the
z LLAC meeting and seemed to be generally satisfied with the plan. -
0
An operations plan for the launch was presented and drew more
w criticism than. the development .plan. I.believemost of the
objections to the .operating plan have been addressed in the draft
J -that is being presented to the'Park Board for its consideration
~ on April 6th (see attached).
w
~ The Long Lake Surface Use Ordinance .was .the subject of a great
in deal. of discussion with members of the LLIA. The primary area, of
^- contention was the provision that upon opening the boat launch
~' that waterskiing and powerboating are allowed only between noon
~ and 6:OOpm on weekends and holidays.
z
~ In October 1978 the City Council created a study group to devise
~ a surface use ordinance for Long Lake., This group was formed by
Q the. city and the ordinance subsequently adopted by the city
w because with the lake being located entirely within New `Brighton
'o boundaries, the ordinance is the city's responsibility. .The.
z committee consisted of the following persons: Jerry Bensng,
~ Lake resident, Jim Borgstrom, lake resident, George Carlso~;:lake
Q resident, Park Board member, Ellen Dahl, Park Soard member,'..
W Al Levitan, lake resident, George Orning, lake resident,
w DNR employee,-and ex-officio Ken Simons and Maurie Anderson
o The committee studied ordinances from surrounding communities
z solicits input from the LLIA and ultimately recommended the
Q ordinance to the Park Board and City Council for their
~ consideration.
Q •
a
