operations of Minnesota Commercial. An offer has been made to purchase an area along 1st St.
SW that will apparently suit the needs of the railroad. We will try to clarify this complex project
at the meeting.
C. Demolition
Demolition has been completed on the Dahlke, Lange, and Haines properties, and may be
completed at Darling and the Anoka Co-op as you read this. The driving range building is
awaiting fire training exercises later this month. Hazardous materials have been removed from
the Kilkenny buildings, and demolition is scheduled to begin there shortly. The only other
building in the demolition contract is the Beisswenger's store, which will await the relocation to
the new building (see below).
D. Office Tenant
Grant Fernelius met with a broker from Staubach Co., representing an office tenant looking for
land to construct a building of about 50,000 square feet. He told them about the possible sites in
the Northwest Quadrant; given the need to move quickly, the bowling alley and Mengelkoch
sites appear to be the best candidates. The broker is undoubtedly screening multiple sites, and
will be in contact after further review. This is another sign of improvement in the Twin Cities
area office market and suggests our area will be a desirable option for office development.
VI. Other Developments
A. Brighton Village
We are still awaiting a new site plan.
B. Beisswenger's New Store
Work continues steadily. Mark Beisswenger hopes to be able to move into the new building in
early April.
VII. Business Council Report
About 15 people attended the meeting on January 31st, mostly business people who have
attended previous such meetings. Attendees seemed pleased to have the opportunity to hear
about City projects and to offer suggestions. No major issues were raised by the business owners
and managers.
The next such meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 25th. We hope to be able to highlight
the meeting with a topic of special interest to this group.
