Beisswenger's <br /> At long last, the City closed on the purchase and sale with Beisswenger's on May 2na <br /> Construction is scheduled to begin on the new store around June 1st. The grand opening is <br /> tentatively scheduled for January 21st, 2006. The new store will have double the retail space. <br /> Delaune wondered who would take over after Beisswenger retires. Black stated that Jim <br /> Neumann is Mark Beisswenger's partner and he would take over the store. <br /> Midwest Asphalt <br /> The trial date has been postponed until September, in order to provide time to onsider the <br /> Supreme Court's ruling on a relevant Connecticut eminent domain case, exp . in June. A <br /> formal mediation process is scheduled for May 17th; we hope that we can reach a- -ment <br /> through mediation and avoid the trial. While in mediation the City will be wo mg • the land <br /> owner and the business owner. A new appraisal indicates that the property v. e has i .ed <br /> in the last couple of years, but not to the dollar amount that the owner h ro. -d. <br /> Barr Engineering has completed a draft response action plan to reme 'a conta ination on the <br /> Midwest site. It currently indicates that there are two sites that at contaminate The housing <br /> developers are reviewing the plan. It currently appears that the cost to the area will be <br /> roughly $6 million. The City will be applying for cleanu nts. he City will again approach <br /> the County regarding a land swap, with the assumption t a ' area will be cleaned up. <br /> Other Properties <br /> The City successfully acquired the Kilkenny rop on A 15th. We will be leasing back the <br /> southern building to Sign-Zone (formerly i iol Signergy)until January 2006. <br /> At a meeting last month with Ferrelgas repr atives, staff agreed to search for properties in <br /> the City that could accommodate tllcompany. investigating several apparent options, <br /> staff concluded that are no curre availa pr erties in the City that are suitable. The <br /> company will use other resourc ok fo site nearby. <br /> Brighton Village <br /> The City ouncil approv- ,e ph for B hton Village at its April 26th meeting, with only <br /> small cha om the plan .'n to the Commission last month. Kraus-Anderson has not <br /> announced e si f an t- , yet(except for Snyder's), but hopes to generate interest at <br /> the annual Shoppi g s Con ntion later this month. <br /> i <br /> Kraus-Andersbv has decided to demolish the building this summer and do all the rebuilding in <br /> one phase. Theyope to open early next year. <br /> Gateway Area <br /> Plans for both the Applewood Pointe housing cooperative and the office building by Red Stone <br /> Home Builders have been approved. Developers are awaiting financing approval, and expect to <br /> begin construction this summer. <br />
