Business Council
Black reported that the last Business Council meeting was well attended and staff is looking
forward to the next meeting, scheduled for Thursday, July 28th at 7:30 am. Delaune asked if
there were any specific themes being worked on for the meeting. Fernelius replied that one topic
that may be discussed is demographics. He invited the commission members to attend and if
they had any additional topics to let him know. Black reported that much of the meeting would
cover Northwest Quadrant and Brighton Village.
Black asked if anyone would be able to help make telephone calls to the invited businesses.
Delaune, Kaufhold and Larson all volunteered to make the calls.
Brighton Village
Fernelius reported that Kraus-Anderson has been approached by a couple of developers who are
interested in building a hotel or a medical clinic on the site. Kraus-Anderson is not very
interested in the hotel. They may come back to the Council with a modified site plan. He also
reported that Snyder's will not be in the development. Walgreen's and CVS are interested in
being a part of the project. The City no longer knows if Kraus-Anderson will be able to stay
with its most recent time frame.
Black reported that he received a call from the new US Bank manager, who is interested in
building a new bank within the new development. The bank would be interested in a different
location on the Brighton Village site, possibly where the Sinclair station is. Delaune suggested
that bank negotiate directly with Sinclair instead of the City. He suggested that the City might be
able to orchestrate it with Kraus-Anderson so that neither Kraus-Anderson nor the City are
involved.
Champps has made arrangement to take over the liquor store space adjoining its restaurant. They
are planning on converting it to a smoking restaurant.
Other Business
Johnson reported that CMS will have its building for sale soon. His company will be relocating
at the beginning of December. Doffing recommended that the City post the building vacancy on
the Minnesota Department of Commerce's site.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 a.m.
