MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting -March 13, 2007 <br />7:00 a.m. <br />MernberslLiaisons Present: Sob Benke, Gene Delaune, Dennis Flahave, Linda Harmon, Lisa Harrold, <br />Annie Hoffman, John Kaufhold, Mark Nelson, Jim Sculthorp, Gary Stang and Jim Witkowski. <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Steve Larson. <br />Staff Present: Grant Fernelius, David Black, and Jennifer Lavandowska. <br />Call to Order <br />Mark Nelson called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />The minutes of the February 13, 2007 meeting were presented for approval. All approved. <br />~rnmission Goals and Priorities for 2007 <br />ck reported that the Council's annual retreat had been moved back several weeks to allow Dean Lotter to <br />become accustomed to the City. The Commission therefore has the opportunity to review its goals and <br />priorities and provide suggestions that will be passed on to the Council. He reminded the Commission that <br />when it was first developed its focus was strictly on commercial development, but it has since evolved to <br />include residential and all new developments. Below are the list of priorities and goals that the Commission <br />members listed for the Council's review: <br />• The Old Highway 8 corridor by the Dairy Queen needs to be revitalized through redevelopment and the <br />Old Highway 8 Study should be reviewed. Proposed by .Siang. <br />• Widen Old Highway 8 where the railroad bridge crosses over it. Proposed by Nelson. <br />• If the Old Highway 8 corridor is to be redeveloped, recommend beginning to talk to Ramsey County and <br />the railroad as soon as possible. Proposed by Stang and Nelson. <br />• Keview the Engineering Study for a crossing of the rail line between County Rd E2 and 5t" St. NW. <br />Proposed by Delaune. <br />• The Comprehensive Plan needs to address maintaining a high quality of life. Proposed by Delaune. <br />• Incorporate trails through out the City and tie them to existing trails from the surrounding communities. <br />Adding trails would be fairly inexpensive and have a huge payback for the community. New home <br />owners are looking for communities that have trails and this could help draw new residents into the City. <br />Proposed by Harrold. <br />• Review surrounding communities' developments and see how they will impact our city. Proposed by <br />Nelson. <br />The area east of I-35W should be reviewed for any possible redevelopment. Proposed by Kaufhold. <br />• 1~alk to the "fhree Rivers Park District about the former Salvation Army park and ask how changes here <br />can benefit the City.
