Planning Commission Minutes -February 20, 2001
Page 4

screening of mechanical equipment. The applicant provided a plan indicating location of the new equipment
th
and removal of noisiest equipment. The majority of the equipment will be screened from 7 St. by the new
gym and classrooms. Staff suggested evergreen tree plantings at the northwest corner to screen the
th
equipment from Silver Lake Road and 10 St. The existing and new equipment will be painted to blend into
surrounding landscape. The project has run into some budget limitations which involve elimination of the
changes to the playing fields and tennis courts.

A school district representative presented an illustration of the site plan and the mechanical equipment design.

Locke explained that the property owners were not notified of the presentation tonight due to previous
Council approval of the site plan. Council requested the applicant to address the screening issue and provide
for review by the Planning Commission. This condition did not require notification of another public hearing
and did not include an additional mailing to property owners.

The Commission felt the applicant has made a good faith effort to resolve the concerns relating to the
mechanical equipment.

APPROVE THE PLANS FOR SCREENING OF
Motion by Schmitz, seconded by Schiferl, to
MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE HIGHVIEW SCHOOL ADDITION.
4 Ayes - 0 Nayes,
Motion Carried.

Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 9:09 p.m.

_______________________________________
Patrick Boylan, City Planner

I:\COMMISSIONS\PLANNING\MINUTES\2001\2-20-01.WPD
4
